Is that a jelly bean?

Today Vin got to see his first ultrasound ... yep, that's right, we're going to have another baby! We've never been very good at keeping it a secret for long, but we did manage to keep it under wraps for 3 weeks and 5 days since the first positive test, which is a miracle in itself.

So before I go any further, I would first like to apologize that so many of you will be finding out this way as opposed to us sharing in person (or at the very least on the phone). However, my morning, I mean my all-day sickness has been really bad this time around. Maybe it was just as bad last time, but of course I can't remember. It's truly amazing how quickly we forget all the negative stuff involved in pregnancy.

Second, I want to warn you that this post is a bit self-indulgent. It was partially written for posterity's sake so I hope you won't think too poorly of me.

We were shocked to find out that we -- or rather I am pregnant. We were both convinced that it would take a while. And with the exception of losing my mind (forgetting everything from a conversation had 5 minutes ago to basic vocabulary) and some seriously intense mood swings, I didn't have any physical symptoms until week 6. Once the morning sickness kicked in I was kicking myself for not having enjoyed the prior 2 weeks more! To top if off, Vin and I were both dealing with a horrible cold as well, which just made the morning sickness worse. No good drugs are allowed during pregnancy.

I had been training for the Seattle 1/2 Marathon, but my doc said it will just have to wait until next year. This is not because he is discouraging me from running. Instead, he suggests I maintain the level I'm currently at (and no, I'm NOT running 13.1 miles yet!!) So, I do plan to maintain now that my cold has run it's course -- thanks to Cory, my idol, who was still running at week 34 of her pregnancy. I don't know that I would have really believed I could do it if I hadn't seen her doing it with my own eyes. She is seriously amazing -- and she looks amazing too. You know, one of those pregnant women who you can't tell is pregnant until they turn around. Seriously.

I ran a 10k at week 6 and have a 5k planned for week 13.5 with the Haney clan (minus Nick and Coco who are the real runners in the family). We'll see what else I can find in the months to come. Unfortunately, I haven't run in 2 weeks and it's driving me crazy. I've read that women who run throughout their pregnancy -- and through the morning sickness -- actually feel better during and recover more quickly afterwards. My fingers are crossed. Wish me luck ... I seriously need a healthier pregnancy this time around so I can keep up with Vincent!!

Chris and I were kind of hoping for another boy so that Vin would have a little brother, but we're already thinking this is going to be a girl. We don't know why, and of course we won't know for sure for several more weeks, but it will be interesting to see if our gut is right. Either way, of course we will be happy!!
