Hippy Birthday!

So we decided to have a "hippy" themed birthday for Vincent's first birthday, considering he pulls the look off so well. Mostly, I was just trying to think of things we could do to entertain the kids at the party. We barbequed (thanks Grandpa for making 2 trips to the store for the things we forgot!), we had kiddie pools (thanks Tiff W for the gifts!) complete with tie-dye print beach balls, tie-dye kiddie backpacks, bubbles ... and, of course, we had to make tie-dye t-shirts.

I am happy to say the t-shirts were a SUCCESS! Neener neener to those of you who thought I couldn't pull it off ... or who thought I must be completely insane :)~ Haha. I am insane and have no intention of changing that.

Of course I was a sweaty mess by the time the t-shirts were done. That wasn't really part of the plan. Thanks to all my helpers for pitching in ... instead of laughing at me as I tried to get a dozen or so kids between the ages of 2 and 10 to focus long enough to dip their shirts in permanant dye without wearing half of it before the process was complete.

So, as excited as I am that it wasn't a complete disaster, and dispite the fact that I will most likely still be crazy, we will probably be sticking to cake and pin the tail on the donkey next year. Hope no one will be disappointed.

Oh, and I have to save a special thanks to Grammy Sandra for coming down early and saving the day. Without her help I would have been un-showered, in my sweats, and still trying to figure out how to work with fondant icing when people started arriving ... instead of showered and in my bath towel.

Here is mommy's first attempt at making a birthday cake. Needed some body work.

As you can see, he enjoyed his VW Bus cake. But as much as he enjoyed it, he still wanted to share. He's very into sharing his food right now.

I think the only thing he wasn't a huge fan of was the crown we bought him.

This was Vin's gift from mommy and daddy. What a little bad a*s, huh?

Grandpa and Grandma Haney got Vin this awesome wagon, which he loves.

We had lots of sun and a great turnout for the party! What a wonderful group of friends and family we have ...

The kids were hilarious, helping Vin open his gifts. Grammy Sandra helped start Vin's first savings account, and the Blacklocks even got Vin his first Savings Bond. All our friends and family were so generous with him and picked out some really cute toys and clothes -- thanks EVERYONE!! We love you all.

Great job on the cake!!! It turned out awesome! Looks like the party was a success, sorry we couldn't be there, I'm sure we all would have had a blast. And way to go on the tie-dye t-shirts!
