innocent no more

It's easy to mistake this sweet smile and those baby blues for the face of innocence, but I assure you -- he is innocent no more! At 16 months, Vincent is pushing all the boundaries and is finally starting to understand the word "no". And I know he understands it, but of course there are times he pretends not to.

Climbing onto anything he can is his current favorite pastime. The fireplace is of course my #1 biggest fear. It's not so much that he could climb into it and get all dirty (we never use it, so there's nothing in it to really be concerned about) it's the seat/ledge that I'm afraid he's going to fall off of when he decides he's done ... and I can only imagine how bad that could be if he caught a corner on the way down. For now, he listens when I say "no" to that one. Let's hope it sticks.

His second favorite pastime is throwing temper tantrums. Oh joy. He sits himself down on the floor, throws his head back, and starts to cry. Sometimes we even get real tears. Luckily, it doesn't last long because momma pretends not to notice. I just keep wondering when he'll stop trying that one ... and no, I don't really want to know the answer!

But mostly, he is still the same wonderful little boy he has always been. He giggles a ton, he loves it when daddy "throws" and swings him around, he loves his belly to be tickled, he loves to run as fast as he can down the halls and around the kitchen, he loves his Maddy dog, and he loves to randomly give hugs to momma and dadda for no apparent reason (and that is of course my favorite!) We can only hope #2 will be as sweet and loving.

temper tantrums? climbing? sounds like you've got yourself a full blown toddler!

about the fireplace...do you have the rubber around the ledge? if not i would definitely suggest it. and maybe keep some throw pillows around it to cushion his fall when he does decide to climb it.
